Guild Wars 3 Rumors & Leaks Tracker: What's Real, What's Reported, What's Noise
Every Guild Wars 3 rumor in one place with an honest status: UE5, the Gamescom showing, the fourth species, professions, release window. Updated as they break.
This page is the quarantine zone. Everything below is unconfirmed — that's the point. Each claim gets a status (reported = a real outlet said it; rumor = community/unsourced; debunked = officially contradicted), a source, and a date. When ArenaNet confirms something, it graduates to the everything-we-know hub and gets marked here. Take the whole page with a mine's worth of salt — again: that's what it's for.
Active rumors
Gamescom 2026: a big closed-doors showing, maybe gameplay — reported (single source)
German outlet guided.news reports (Aug 11) that GW3 will appear at Gamescom 2026 in the B2B area — press, creators, and partners only — with ArenaNet preparing what could be the biggest look at the game yet, possibly including gameplay. No second outlet has matched it and ArenaNet hasn't announced a Gamescom presence. Single-source, so it stays here — but it's a short-fuse rumor: Gamescom runs late August. If real, expect a wave of previews rather than a public demo.
Unreal Engine 5 — reported, widely
Wikipedia and most press describe GW3 as UE5, which would be the franchise's first non-proprietary engine. ArenaNet has never printed "Unreal" in any official post we track — no denial either. Odds this is wrong are low (industry reporting is uniform, and the community has been reading ArenaNet's public job posts the same way), but until the studio or the press kit says it, it sits here.
The fourth playable species — rumor (the guessing game)
ArenaNet confirmed four launch species — humans, asura, kodan, and "a new species" — and explicitly ruled out the Forgotten (four arms + serpentine body vs. armor and animation rigs). The community shortlists, none sourced to ArenaNet: dwarves (alive and un-stoned in this era), tengu (the franchise's eternal bridesmaid), jotun (golden-age lore fits: their civilization was great once), or an invented species tied to the Vael. Our note: ArenaNet said new species — GW1-vintage picks like dwarves and tengu aren't "new," which the literal reading disqualifies. Watch the spotlight-diary cadence: at one species every week or two, the reveal likely lands before October.
Professions — rumor, zero signal
Nothing official exists about GW3's class system. Not the count, not the names, not whether GW1-style dual-classing or GW2-style elite specs return. The official-forum speculation threads are lively and entirely evidence-free. The only adjacent fact: the story diaries put signets at the center of Vaelwarden magic, and the announcement copy stresses "build-making" — so build identity clearly survives. Everything else is fan fiction until a diary says otherwise.
Release window 2028+ — inference, not a leak
No credible source claims a release date. The "2028" you see in headlines is arithmetic (fall 2027 first beta + normal MMO beta runway), not information. Details in our release-date breakdown.
Confirmed history that started as rumor (the track record)
Worth keeping score — the big pre-announcement reporting held up:
- March 2024: reporting that NCSoft green-lit GW3 (surfacing from a shareholder meeting, carried by Massively OP's podcast and others). Confirmed June 5, 2026, when the game was announced.
- June 2026 pre-announcement: "Raise the banners" teasers to content creators read as a GW3 signal. Confirmed within days.
Scorekeeping matters: sources that were right earn weight next time, and this page is where we track who earns it.
Debunked
- "Playable Forgotten" — killed by ArenaNet in the species diary (Aug 4–5), on animation-rig grounds.
- "GW2 is being sunset for GW3" — contradicted by the franchise commitment post: GW2 gets a foundations year, then annual expansions resume after GW3 launches.
- "Paid beta keys are circulating" — nothing has been distributed to anyone; every key for sale is fake. See the scam patterns list.
